The Grave Robber is one of the playable Character Classes in Darkest Dungeon.

Combat Skills[ | ]

The Grave Robber is a versatile and nimble combatant, moving back and forth through the ranks with ease. She strikes without warning and retreats to the shadows, continuing her assault at range. If her throwing daggers and poison darts aren't getting the job done, she can return to the melee, buffed and slinging her pickaxe!
~ Guild

Note: New Grave Robbers will always come with the Shadow Fade skill.

(All buffs and debuffs last for 3 rounds unless otherwise specified.)

Camping Skills[ | ]

The Grave Robber is restless, and prefers to wander while the party camps, always on the lookout for trinkets and baubles. She may reluctantly confess to pilfering an item in the Hamlet prior to departure, or entertain those with a similarly morbid sense of humor with a biting and ironic wit.
~ Survivalist

Camping skills are special skills heroes can use while they are camping. They take a certain number of "respite" points to use, and can only be used once per camp (unless the skill says otherwise). Most heroes have three shared camping skills and all heroes have 4 unique camping skills (with the Flagellant being the exception, having only unique camping skills). Only 4 of these can be equipped at one time. Any Buffs or lasting effects given from a camping skill lasts for 4 battles.

The Grave Robber's camping skills are each distinct from each other, giving her a fair bit of utility. She can increase scouting chance, heal Diseases, resupply the party with an item, or attempt to heal stress (but that can backfire).

Tactical Analysis[ | ]

The Grave Robber makes for a speedy attacker anywhere from positions 2 to 4. Her greatest assets are her high DODGE and CRIT ratings to offset her below-average HP. Lunge and Thrown Dagger already start with a higher-than-average CRIT rate and continue to scale upwards, and her trinkets and buffs can raise those stats even higher. Her propensity for landing criticals can lead to some unexpectedly helpful Stress heals. She specializes in assassinating Blighted targets, as the damage bonus granted by the above two attacks indicate. Her other skills offer great utility — Shadow Fade combos perfectly with Lunge, providing buffs that turn her into a powerhouse in a dancing party; Poison Dart hits anywhere on the field and offers a reasonable Blight chance and Blight debuff by herself, and Pick to the Face! ignores PROT in case an enemy is resistant to both upfront-physical damage and damage over time. In a pinch, Toxin Trickery helps to cure DOTs and raises her DODGE and SPD even more.

That said, the Grave Robber isn't completely self-reliant, and her full potential can be brought out with careful selection of party-member composition. A Plague Doctor or Shieldbreaker pairs nicely with her, as they can help inflict stronger Blights on enemies so that she can immediately get to work on them with her signature skills. Thrown Dagger also has a damage bonus on Marked enemies which stacks with the Blighted damage bonus, so Mark skills will definitely amplify her damage output. Flashing Daggers has an unusual benefit, delivering a Bleed resist debuff without actually having any Bleed source herself, but this lets her synergize very well with a Jester or Hellion in sticking bleed on enemy positions 2 and 3. Dancing parties whose skills advance themselves forward also means that the Grave Robber can consistently use Lunge rather than having to spend a turn setting up with Shadow Fade.

Equipment[ | ]

A light coat is all the Graverobber will wear, she favours mobility and dexterity over protection. Concealed within her garment are razor sharp throwing daggers, and buckled to her back - a pickaxe!
~ Blacksmith

Unlike other games, equipment upgrades in Darkest Dungeon are linear, all bought at the Blacksmith.

Each Hero has Trinkets unique to them that only they can equip. The Grave Robber has seven; 2 common, 2 Crimson Court, and 1 uncommon, rare, and very rare. In the base game, her lower level trinkets are satchels and her high level trinkets are talismans. The Color of Madness DLC adds a tonic, while The Crimson Court DLC adds a letter opener and absinthe, a highly alcoholic drink that was illegal in many western countries for parts of the 20th century.

The Crimson Court DLC added special Trinket Sets, two for each hero. They confer powerful bonuses to the hero equipped with them, and having both equipped at once yields an additional bonus, which is shown greyed out at the bottom. The origin dungeon for all Trinket Sets is the Courtyard and they all have the rarity Crimson Court. The Shieldbreaker Trinket SetExclusive to The Shieldbreaker DLC, however, is only obtainable through her final 6th and 7th nightmare encounters and won't be dropped or given as a reward in the Courtyard. Trinkets you already have will stop dropping, so there's value in not selling the ones you don't like until you get the ones you want.

Refusing to Move[ | ]

  • You amaze me, friend. Surely you know we must die.
  • Move!? Hells-bells, I canst hardly breathe!

Refusing to Perform Camping Skills[ | ]

  • Staying here is madness. I cannot countenance it.
  • We should move on! They are still far too close!
  • Please... let us rest quickly and get a move on.

  • Twenty-five percent, says I. You will sell me no dog!
  • I sense the flick of a viper's tongue. Beware of treachery...
  • Their eyes shift about. I daresay a trick is afoot...
  • Betrayal... I must cast a keen eye over my shoulder...
  • I assure you, the worst is far from over.

Stressing Party[ | ]

  • We have fallen prey to dark deeds and machinations.
  • A foul trick it was, luring me here...
  • They must have known we were coming!

Switching Position to the Back[ | ]

  • Heavens! They have come for me!
  • Do you see their eyes! There is something EVIL within!
  • We must away! Before their compatriots arrive!

Passing Turn[ | ]

  • Hah, I am no lamb, led to slaughter!
  • I'm no society hag!

  • Who's that watching me?!
  • Balderdash. I will not be deceived!

Camping Stress[ | ]

  • I will be keeping a knife under my pillow tonight.
  • This place is death. Only a fool would close his eyes.

Attacking Party Member[ | ]

  • I've seen you eyeing my things! Have at thee!

  • And take the booty for yourself? Dear me, no.
  • You cowardly dogfish! You KNEW this would happen!

  • Ungh! It's the food! They can smell it from a mile off!
  • You bastards! You're TRYING to stain my coat, aren't you?

Enemy Missed Self[ | ]

  • Oh blast. I've gone and riled that one.
  • Why attack me?! How have I offended thee?!

Party Member Attack Misses[ | ]

  • Oh, just come out with it! They paid you to miss!
  • You can not deceive me, you wretch. You have betrayed us!

Party Member Getting Hit[ | ]

  • It is as though they know our every move...
  • I do not like this! They are too powerful!

Party Member Missed by Enemy[ | ]

  • You are working together... You alone will survive.
  • You can not deceive me, wretch. You have betrayed us!

Refusing to Move[ | ]

  • Mmm... l like not the look in your eye. I decline.
  • What, so you can slip away more easily? Ha!

Refusing to Use Item[ | ]

  • I don't need anything you have.
  • Stop touching me! For Heaven's sake!

Refusing to Get Healed[ | ]

  • I very highly doubt your intentions, my good fellow!
  • Thank you, but no. I have my reasons.
  • Keep your silly incantations to yourself, please.

Refusing to Get Buffed[ | ]

  • Now now, that's enough with the friendly touching.
  • No, thank you. I don't like that glint in your eye.
  • Keep your greasy fingers to yourself, thank you.

Refusing to Perform Camping Skills[ | ]

  • What foolishness! We should leave this place NOW!
  • Oh yes... you would like that, wouldn't you?
  • You're just trying to get at my purse. Shoo!

Refusing to be Target of Camping Skills[ | ]

  • Keep a respectful distance. I am still a Lady in some ways.
  • Shh! I heard something! Stay at the ready!

Refusing to Eat while Camping[ | ]

  • This is… are you trying to murder me?
  • Surely, this is the laziest poisoning attempt of all time.

Becoming Masochistic[ | ]

  • Come, foul denizens of the night! Do your worst!
  • There's no wound a half-gallon of absinthe won't cure.
  • What's a bruise or two, in the face of such plunder?
  • Pshaw! I know a lovely doctor who owes me a favour...
  • You cannot harm one whom society has left for dead...

Stressing Party[ | ]

  • Ha! Another mark won't tarnish this soul!
  • Yes, work away! Gives my chirurgeon something to do!
  • Do as you like. You'll not deter me from my share.

  • Indeed, every prick takes away the sting!

  • No, my sweet — I rather like a little bloodying...
  • What? Afraid of a little blood?

Camping Stress[ | ]

  • Anyone care for a round of stabscotch?
  • I volunteer for the watch.
  • Sleep? And miss the surprise attack? Lordy, no!

Marking Self[ | ]

  • Cut me! I wish to look the part!
  • Foolish trifles! Is this all I can expect from you?

Damaging Self[ | ]

  • Pain? Pfff.
  • Here — I will help you along. ...There!

Refusing to Retreat[ | ]

  • Why? All these scars will look positively delightful!
  • What? I was just starting to enjoy it!

Getting Hit by Enemy[ | ]

  • MMMmmmm. Hurts so good.
  • You hit hard. I rather like that!

Enemy Missed Self[ | ]

  • You can do better, deary. Come now.
  • Aaaaw... I was looking forward to that one.

Party Member Getting Hit[ | ]

  • (soft moan) A little blood looks good on you, I must say.
  • Ooo, me next!

Refusing to Move[ | ]

  • I rather like it here. Grand view of the devastation.
  • No thank you. I think it's high-time I earned my keep.

Refusing to Use Item[ | ]

  • Oh, that? I've weathered worse.
  • T'is but a pin prick, deary! Go bother the others!

Refusing to Get Healed[ | ]

  • Why blunt the sting? It's kept me going thus far.
  • I love a little punishment; it suits me, like a fine coat.
  • You lack faith in me? Oh... how disheartening.

Refusing to Get Buffed[ | ]

  • Thank you, but no. I fancy a hearty walloping.
  • I prefer my disadvantage, thank you.
  • Thank you, but a flash of hot blood keeps me limber.

Refusing to Perform Camping Skills[ | ]

  • I'd prefer to let the pain linger.
  • Oh brace up! We'll be fine...
  • Bless me, but there's a lot of whining on this trip.

Refusing to be Target of Camping Skills[ | ]

  • I shall bleed enough to cover my coat in crimson!
  • I find the pain quite… satisfying, thank you.

Refusing to Eat while Camping[ | ]

  • No thank you. I keep a light stomach while on the take.
  • Thin blood keeps the hands quick. Thus I decline.

Becoming Abusive[ | ]

  • Stand away from me, you beggars!
  • My allies' dank musk will disguise me well.
  • None of you beslubbering dewberries can be trusted...
  • Pray tell how I ended up out here with these half-wits?
  • You lot render me positively queenly. I approve.

Stressing Party[ | ]

  • No need for a weapon beyond that fetid rank!
  • Gah! Where are the foes worthy of my rage!?
  • This is no challenge! I long for honorable battle!

Random Action[ | ]

  • Pigs! Fools!
  • Let the expert handle this!
  • Psh, enough idle chatter!

Camping Stress[ | ]

  • Sleep here? With you ill-bred canker-blossoms? Ha!
  • If you malt-worms disturb my sleep, you'll regret it.
  • Tsk. What next? Shall I LITERALLY sleep with dogs?

Attacking Party Member[ | ]

  • You simpering cockerel. I've about had it with you!
  • En garde! You shall assault my senses no longer!

Party Member Attack Hits[ | ]

  • Good, but try aiming next time.
  • Lovely. Now if only you could master the art of bathing.

Party Member Attack Misses[ | ]

  • Honestly, fish in a barrel have nothing to fear from you.
  • My cat could put up a better fight. And he's dead.

Party Member Getting Hit[ | ]

  • Oh, lord, what a sham you are! Honestly!
  • Is that your signature move then? (titter titter)

Refusing to Move[ | ]

  • You fidget more than a child at mass. Honestly!
  • Oh, calm yourself — a lady is not to be brushed aside!

Refusing to Perform Camping Skills[ | ]

  • Oh, little suckling piggy, go find your hog-mother.
  • Outrageous! The Lady of the house tends not to the ills of her servants!
  • Your company wears on me. I'd rather part with it.

Refusing to be Target of Camping Skills[ | ]

  • Salacious pig — if you seek some closeness, try the cabaret!
  • Surely you jest! I am a Lady, approach me not!

Becoming Selfish[ | ]

  • Best let me appraise the loot. I have an eye for jewels!
  • These hook-fingered brutes are fleecing me, I know it.
  • Twenty-five percent... laughable! I am worth a fortune!
  • I am no child slave. I deserve a Lady's recompense!
  • What an attractive bauble… Mine!

Stressing Party[ | ]

  • Damn and blast! They've bled on my coat YET AGAIN!
  • How did I get hornswoggled into this malarkey? Bah!
  • I'm looking out for me, and my coinpurse.

Switching Position to the Front[ | ]

  • This pretty creep is all mine!
  • You're fouling up my aim, you clay-brained manikin!
  • The coin-purse on that one is positively bulging...

Switching Position to the Back[ | ]

  • Far too messy for a lady like myself.
  • Honestly, I prefer the looting over the killing.
  • Dear me... All this gore is playing hell on my skin.

Passing Turn[ | ]

  • I'm my own woman.
  • Yes, in a moment, in a moment... maybe.
  • You know, we never did discuss my expenses....

Random Action[ | ]

  • Tsk. Let me make a decision for once.
  • And just when did I become your personal servant?
  • I do otherwise. Dost thou object...?

Camping Stress[ | ]

  • Let me appraise the party loot. Come, hand it over.
  • If you wanted sherry, you might have brought your own.
  • You clear the next section. My body cries for repose.

Getting Hit by Enemy[ | ]

  • Bloody hell! More holes to sew up!
  • Hey! Pick on someone your own… social class!

Party Member Attack Hits[ | ]

  • Honestly, how am I to earn a bonus with you around?
  • Stop making it look so easy! Must keep our fees high...

Party Member Attack Misses[ | ]

  • Good. I wanted that one for myself as is.
  • If I kill it, do I get the pick of his loot?

Refusing to Perform Camping Skills[ | ]

  • Not until I get some promise of bonus pay.
  • That wasn't in my contract. But we could renegotiate...
  • I will, I will... for an extra five percent.

Becoming Hopeless[ | ]

  • Curse this life. Still, 'tis my own doing...
  • Seems I've been sentenced to dawdle with oafish cut-purses.
  • I was a Lady once. Now, little more than a burglar.
  • Blazes. Imagine if I'd been content with what I had...
  • "A bird in the hand," the judge said. Sigh.

Stressing Party[ | ]

  • And now we die... entombed in our greed.
  • A sad end to a life full of promise and grace.
  • From the loftiest heights to the blackest deeps...

Switching Position to the Front[ | ]

  • There is no compensation for what I've lost...
  • Take me, then. I know the grave better than most.
  • Take me, then. Lord knows I've taken plenty of you.

Switching Position to the Back[ | ]

  • What am I doing out here? I should have done more with my life.
  • There is no purpose to this. We must surrender!
  • I've fought long enough, and to what end?

Passing Turn[ | ]

  • There is no sense in that. And I would know...
  • But why? Life owes me no favors.
  • I'll never buy my way out of this.

Random Action[ | ]

  • Surely you see there's no point to all this?
  • Hush now, sweet-cheeks. There's nothing more to do.
  • (chuckle) You foolish child. We are already dead.

Camping Stress[ | ]

  • Bah. I've lost more money than you can dream of.
  • There are no friends here. Keep to yourselves.
  • So cold here. Like... like a mausoleum.

Marking Self[ | ]

  • Come! My pitiable life deserves a pitiable end!
  • I choose you! You will consign me to the grave! NOW!

Damaging Self[ | ]

  • A nick here, a nick there... soon the misery must end.
  • Suicide, yes... A most romantic death.

Refusing to Retreat[ | ]

  • No. My bed is made entirely of humiliation. Not one more.
  • Let me die with A SHRED of dignity, at least.

Refusing to Use Item[ | ]

  • No, no, please... Just leave me to a spinster's fate!
  • You lovely fool. Can't you see it's too late?

Refusing to Get Healed[ | ]

  • No. I escaped the gallows once — never again.
  • My virtue is already marred. No healing can cure that.
  • Why offer respite? For your mocking amusement?

Refusing to Get Buffed[ | ]

  • No... I turned my back on luxuries long ago.
  • I have stolen so much... how could I deserve more?
  • Your kindness serves only to fuel my self-pity.

Refusing to Perform Camping Skills[ | ]

  • I have come down so far in the world, what use am I?
  • What can I do, save break my nails clawing for paltry riches?
  • Ha. You'll find more compassion in a corpse, deary.

Refusing to be Target of Camping Skills[ | ]

  • Hope is little more than salt in my tea.
  • ...You are kind, but... you waste your efforts.

Refusing to Eat while Camping[ | ]

  • Nothing at the moment, thank you.
  • Ugh.. I cannot eat. I need some time to myself.

Becoming Irrational[ | ]

  • Off with my head! A capital idea!
  • So many young gentlemen, so little propriety. Sigh.
  • I become like the earth! Claiming all!
  • There is a woman in my coat! Out, out, you vagabond!
  • Pass the teacakes my dear. There's a lass.

Stressing Party[ | ]

  • Bring me my needles! These wounds must be stitched!
  • A stone vault with names... all in a peaceful rest...
  • The lock is broken, the casket unsealed...

Switching Position[ | ]

  • I do indeed fancy a dance, thank ye!
  • No second chance at life... only a second death.
  • My fortune for a fence who trades souls for lucre...

Passing Turn[ | ]

  • My leather is lacy and my lace is tattered...
  • It's tea time, I say!
  • My hair is positively knotted!

Random Action[ | ]

  • I am swallowed by the black earth! I see nothing!
  • Flakes of gold and a smudge of rose...
  • Ambergris, Lily of The Valley, and smoldering oak...

Camping Stress[ | ]

  • Here's a pretty fellow! All lace and taffeta! Oh bravo!
  • I see... I see a face in the fire... YOUR FACE.
  • Let us play a game... I call it Whisky and Stabscotch.

Marking Self[ | ]

  • I have decided we must all die. We start with you.
  • Darkness looms over you like a black vapour!

Attacking Party Member[ | ]

  • You were there! You were at my trial! BASTARD!
  • It was you! You ruined my life! HRRAAAA!

Damaging Self[ | ]

  • I see my name on the door! A mausoleum! MY MAUSOLEUM!
  • I am the Reaper. All shall fall.

Refusing to Retreat[ | ]

  • No matter where we flee, the noose awaits…
  • I am the undertaker. I am death's apologist.

Getting Hit by Enemy[ | ]

  • Oh bother. You've positively ruined the carpet.
  • What a bloody mess you've made. Andrea, fetch the maid.

Enemy Missed Self[ | ]

  • Hmm? Oh, nothing for me, thank you.
  • Breezy out today, isn't it?

Party Member Attack Hits[ | ]

  • Oh, lovely! Yes, the pink silk one. Beautiful!
  • Oh my! A party? For me?!

Party Member Attack Misses[ | ]

  • Such lovely doilies. Do they come in blood red??
  • And miss the grand ball? I THINK NOT.

Party Member Getting Hit[ | ]

  • Now now, you two. No rough-housing in the solarium.
  • SHHHH! This is a library!

Party Member Missed by Enemy[ | ]

  • Darling, fetch the good napkins. Thank you, dear.
  • Oh, bother. I've gone and bust me seam.

Refusing to Move[ | ]

  • (humming a waltz and ignoring you)
  • Deary, the sailors hover about you like moths on a lantern!

Refusing to Use Item[ | ]

  • HYAH! HYAH! Ride like the wind, my little horsey!
  • Do you like the needlework? I did it myself.

Refusing to Get Healed[ | ]

  • Oh look, Janey! An invitation to the ball!
  • What lovely lace gloves? Surely the finest in town!
  • Couldn't possibly! I'm on my way to the opera!

Refusing to Get Buffed[ | ]

  • Thief! Heretic!!! DEFILER!!!
  • What did you do?? You took something!! GIVE IT BACK!!!
  • Never touch me, you snark-jawed harlot!

Refusing to Perform Camping Skills[ | ]

  • Needle-point is quite a challenge, I must say!
  • And I shall be attending the soiree clad in pearls and wonderous finery!
  • Excuse me?! I'm reading!

Refusing to be Target of Camping Skills[ | ]

  • Hehehe, Lady Mary was always a little too loquacious, it's true.
  • Send for the undertaker! I am dead and mouldering!

Refusing to Eat while Camping[ | ]

  • I'll not give the maggots a good meal, no sir.
  • Goodness no! I ate yesterday!

Becoming Stalwart[ | ]

  • Pshaw. 'Tis little more than a children's funhouse!
  • Smoke and mirrors, my fellows. Little more!

Reducing Own Stress[ | ]

  • Well now... I feel positively radiant!
  • (defiant laughter)

Becoming Courageous[ | ]

  • Bless me, this is going better than I thought.
  • Just stay focused on the prize. Stay focused...

Reducing Party Stress[ | ]

  • Calm thyself. We'll be home for teatime, I am certain.
  • Oh, relax, this is but a trifling matter...

Becoming Focused[ | ]

  • Aim for the eyes. They'll ne'er see it coming.
  • Ponder not but the take. That's the job.

Buffing a Party Member[ | ]

  • Look at you, all heroic. (wink)
  • Seems you've caught the gist of it. Fancy that!

Becoming Powerful[ | ]

  • Enough lolly-gagging. Now I aim for the heart.
  • A knife to the heart, t'other for the coinpurse.

Buffing Party[ | ]

  • Get us home, and I'll share out some of my filthy lucre.
  • You've seen how I do it, now you try!

Becoming Vigorous[ | ]

  • A little bravery beats laudanum any day, apparently.
  • I can take them on single-handed!

Self Healing[ | ]

  • Hmm. Nothing to fuss about.
  • (sings a pleasant song)

Trivia[ | ]

  • The Grave Robber and the Highwayman share many similarities, such as both being evasive, hard-hitting classes, a similar skill set, and being the only classes to share a unique camping skill, that being Gallows Humor.
  • Previously, when Grave Robber was using her skill "Shadow Fade" when dealing the last attack in the encounter, a glitch could be encountered where Grave Robber's texture does not return on her place and she remains invisible. The team were starting to slowly turn back without stepping animations and they couldn't move forward. This may be a reason why "Shadow Fade" deals no damage now. However, the developers never mentioned that glitch in their patch notes, and the glitch was probably fixed by an accident once the developers decided that gas attacks should deal no damage at all.
  • Several of the Grave Robber's barks suggest that she is of high society, particularly her line "I was a Lady once. Now, little more than a burglar." (spoken upon being afflicted with Hopeless). Additionally, when she uses the camping skill Wound Care, she mentions she knows a little about crocheting.
    • Her comic reveals that she was a member of a once wealthy family (implied to be ruined by her husband/father) who had to resort to grave robbing. According to the Grave Robber's backstory in Darkest Dungeon II, she poisoned her husband to escape his abuse and take full advantage of his fortune.
  • The Razor's Edge is a reference to the AC/DC album of the same name.
  • The predetermined name of the Grave Robber is Audrey, a reference to the wife of the game's creative director and artist, Chris Bourassa.
