In your quest to clean out the Warrens, your heroes have left behind a trail of dead bodies within the labyrinth of sewage tunnels; in turn, this has attracted swarms of Carrion Eaters looking to capitalize on the opportunity for more meals. As the Carrion Eaters gorge upon the corpses, some of them have taken the opportunity to feed on the dead bodies of their Swinefolk masters; as they are scavengers by nature, their loyalties only last as long as their master lives.

However, the Swine are far different from the Carrion Eaters' usual prey. No matter how many generations pass, they are still descended from the pigs that the Ancestor used for his eldritch experiments; as the products of demonic blood ritual summons, their flesh is still possessed by eldritch things from "Outer Spheres". Eating said flesh can have… unexpected and unpredictable results.

Some of the Carrion Eaters that have a wholesome meal on the flesh of their dead Swine masters appear to be mutating - evolving, even - into a more alien abomination. Growing much bigger and more horrifying, the presence of tentacles and eyes that seem to stare into one’s own thoughts are enough to drive away any intruders whom would interrupt its feeding, lest they become its next snack. While unintentionally, your actions created this monster - best to destroy it before it has time to evolve into something even worse.

Just like their smaller brethren, the Large Carrion Eater is drawn to the smell of death and decay. So when the heavy odor of blood and decaying bodies from the Courtyard managed to penetrate the stench of the Warrens, it was no surprise when these horrifying abominations set out in search of the source. The festering, blood-soaked swamps of the Courtyard proved to be just as wretched as the grime-encrusted, plague-soaked Warrens, so the Large Carrion Eaters felt right at home. Disturbingly, these mutated beasts seem to be unaffected by the Crimson Curse; perhaps the eldritch taint within the pig flesh they have eaten has more in common with the Thirst than we realized...

Behavior[edit | edit source]

The Large Carrion Eater is a champion Beast type that appears within the Warrens and the Courtyard. While they cannot attack the back lines or spread Blight and Disease like their smaller cousins, they are much stronger and capable of weakening their targets with debuffs.

Tentacle Devour is similar to the Carrion Eater's Munch attack, dealing moderate damage that is doubled against Marked targets. However, instead of Blight and Disease, the victim of this attack will suffer a debuff to their CRT stat, reducing their damage output and chance of Stress reduction.

Weaken Prey is the Large Carrion Eater's weaker, but more debilitating attack. Hitting either hero in the first two ranks, it deals low-medium damage, Marks the victim, and has a high chance of inflicting two debuffs; one reduces DMG, while the other reduces DMG and ACC.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • Due to their absence from Apprentice-level dungeons, Large Carrion Eaters are not found in the game; only their stronger versions, Large Corpse Eaters and Large Flesh Eaters.
  • The Large Carrion Eater is the only enemy in the game that inflicts two different Debuff effects with one attack, one debuffing DMG and ACC, and the other debuffing just DMG.
