The Musketeer has her own lore and blacksmith, survivalist and guild description despite being a reskin of the arbalest. Although she is recruited as her own hero And has her own trinkets through the Free DLC

She was released as a free DLC on June 19th, 2018.

Combat Skills[edit | edit source]

A competitive sharpshooter with little practical experience, the Musketeer excels when enemies remain at a distance. Her unerring eye and practiced reloading makes a dependable damage dealer, and her smokescreen, first aid, and skeet shot provide some supportive utility to the party.
~ The Guild

All of the Arbalest's combat skills have a new icon and name to fit the reskinned character, while keeping the same values and functionality as the originals.

Note: New Musketeers will always come with Aimed Shot skilled.

Camping Skills[edit | edit source]

The Musketeer understands that hers is a delicate instrument, and must be properly maintained if it to be relied upon in the heat of battle! She is equally adept at providing first aid to her companions, if only to keep them between her and her targets.
~ Survivalist

Camping skills are special skills heroes can use while they are camping. They take a certain number of "respite" points to use, and can only be used once per camp (unless the skill says otherwise). Most heroes have three shared camping skills and all heroes have 4 unique camping skills (With the Flagellant being the exception having only unique camping skills). Only 4 of these can be equipped at one time. Any Buffs or lasting effects given from a camping skill lasts for 4 battles.

No camping skill has been revised, with the exception of Restring Crossbow, which is renamed to Clean Musket, its icon also being replaced with a reskin of the Highwayman's Clean Guns.

Equipment[edit | edit source]

Although outwardly inconspicuous, the Musketeer's regalia is reinforced with hardened leather underarmor, allowing her to sustain a considerable amount of focus fire. Her musket's variable ammunition and trusty sidearm allow her to deal debilitating damage at range.
~ Blacksmith

Unlike other games, equipment upgrades in Darkest Dungeon are linear, all bought at the Blacksmith.

Each Hero has Trinkets unique to them that only they can equip. The Musketeer has seven; 2 common, 2 Crimson Court and 1 uncommon, rare and very rare. In the base game, her lower level trinkets are boots and her high level trinkets are hats. The Crimson Court DLC adds a musket ball and second place trophy.

The Crimson Court DLC added special Trinket Sets, two for each hero. They confer powerful bonuses to the hero equipped with them and having both equipped at once yields an additional bonus, which is shown greyed out at the bottom. The origin dungeon for all Trinket Sets is the Courtyard and they all have the rarity Crimson Court. The Shieldbreaker Trinket Set however is only obtainable through her final 6th and 7th Nightmare encounters and won't be dropped or given as a reward in the Courtyard.

Customisation[edit | edit source]

As for every hero, the Musketeer has four different colour palettes to choose from: red & gold, blue & brown, green & gold, and red & brown.

Barks[edit | edit source]

  • This prize is mine!
  • All too easy!
  • What a shot!
  • Another one for the bag!
  • A fine blast!
  • See how it staggers!
  • There's more where that came from!

Becoming Fearful[edit | edit source]

  • My sights shiver, my blood stops!
  • We are the prey! This is their hunt!
  • Horrors! Unclean sights!

Stressing Party[edit | edit source]

  • It think it has been distracting us...from...
  • This is no sport, this is Hell itself!
  • We have cornered prey no man was meant to hunt!

Switching Position to the Back[edit | edit source]

  • Get it away from me! Away!
  • I won't die here!
  • We should flee!

Passing Turn[edit | edit source]

  • Be silent! BE SILENT!
  • This trail lies deep in the shadow of ill-fortune.
  • Something awaits, and it is not of man. We will all die.

Camping Stress[edit | edit source]

  • Awake? Asleep? I am drowning in the ichor of nightmares!
  • Please do not let the fire die this night...
  • I will not stand watch alone! The shadows see us!

Getting Hit by Enemy[edit | edit source]

  • How much blood do I have left to bleed?!
  • This prey may be beyond my ability...

Enemy Missed Self[edit | edit source]

  • Will it be over soon?!
  • They will not cease until we lie in pieces!

Party Member Attack Misses[edit | edit source]

  • There is no slaying it! We must fly!
  • The hunt is off, we are now the prey!

Party Member Hit[edit | edit source]

  • Hold! Hold for the sake of us all!
  • The grave's black maw will swallow us all!

Enemy Missed Party Member[edit | edit source]

  • The terror consumes me!
  • See how vulnerable we are!

Blocks Move[edit | edit source]

  • Leave me here to die!
  • My very will is snuffed out!

Refuses to Perform Camping Skill[edit | edit source]

  • Trail?! There never was a trail! We hunt blindly in circles!
  • I pray every moment that they will finish me quickly.
  • Which is greater? The shame of quitting or the terror of Death itself?

Becoming Paranoid[edit | edit source]

  • Hah! One of you presumes to be able to stalk me!
  • I sense a snake about!
  • Surround me if you dare!
  • Something follows! It is near!
  • Which of you covets my skull for their mantel?!

Stressing Party[edit | edit source]

  • They taught me to be wary of those nearest, now I know why!
  • Surrounded! And there is no wall to protect my back!
  • Where can I hide when I don't even know what hunts me?!

Switching Position to the Back[edit | edit source]

  • I feel as if my back is a straw target!
  • Your presence behind me is vexing!
  • Further away from you, betrayer!

Passing Turn[edit | edit source]

  • All I can trust now are my hunter's instincts!
  • Hunted by my own party, ironic.
  • The purity of the hunt is soiled by your conspiracies!

Random Action[edit | edit source]

  • Does it disturb you that your prey remains unpredictable?
  • I cannot hide, but I can slip through your grasp!
  • Paranoia will keep me from your greasy daggers!

Camping Stress[edit | edit source]

  • Handle me and I will wear your fingers as warning.
  • My pouches are filled with bells to catch the craven.
  • Deny it all you want! I can hear it approaching!

Attacking Party Member[edit | edit source]

  • Now you know better than to stalk the hunter!
  • I led you to believe that you were the one stalking me!

Refuses to Retreat[edit | edit source]

  • Your hasty ways betray your disloyalty!
  • Cowards AND traitors, all of you!

Getting Hit by Enemy[edit | edit source]

  • I sense foul conspiracy driving these blows!
  • Ah! One of you shoved me!

Enemy Missed Self[edit | edit source]

  • How did that slip through?!
  • One of us stirs their wrath!

Party Member Attack Misses[edit | edit source]

  • How did they tempt you into betrayal?
  • What does it take to tempt one to fight alongside fiends?

Party Member Hit[edit | edit source]

  • How clever! A traitor's ruse!
  • Even fiends cannot bear to let a traitor live!

Enemy Missed Party Member[edit | edit source]

  • We are being deceived, coward!
  • They are in league, the proof is everywhere!

Blocks Move[edit | edit source]

  • Keep me from the traitor!
  • It could be any of you, leave off!

Refuses to Use Item[edit | edit source]

  • Another tactic in your conspiracy, eh?
  • A traitor's weakness lies in a false sense of superiority.

Refuses to Get Healed[edit | edit source]

  • A smiling snake struggles to hide its fangs.
  • How can I be sure that is medicine?
  • Oh suddenly you practice physic?

Refuses to Get Buffed[edit | edit source]

  • Will this weaken me so you can finally strike?
  • Ha! How foolish you must think I am!
  • Only if I can fire a ball into your craven heart.

Refuses to Perform Camping Skill[edit | edit source]

  • I am not anyone's quarry! Be off!
  • You seek to weaken me before battle!
  • I know deception when I see it!

Refuses to be Target of Camping Skill[edit | edit source]

  • I knew it would be you to draw the dagger!
  • Cross me at your peril!
  • Seeking to unburden your hands of their fingers?

Refuses to Eat when Camping[edit | edit source]

  • Is this traitor's stew? I'll pass.
  • What a great 'kindness' you visit upon me...

Becoming Masochistic[edit | edit source]

  • Pain! Make of me your quarry!
  • My blood will lure them out!
  • The thrill of the chase! The ecstacy of pain!
  • Sweet, oh sweetest agony!
  • Rend me! Gore me!

Stressing Party[edit | edit source]

  • Blood draws hunter and hunted, together!
  • The clubsmen are soft from luxury! Pain forges me!
  • I will stir its blood in mine!

Switching Position to the Front[edit | edit source]

  • Let those arrows and blows land sweet upon my brow!
  • I left my armour leagues back!
  • Is this not tempting enough, fiends?

Random Action[edit | edit source]

  • Fortune's blows rain down on those it cannot command!
  • Find me swinging swords! Rending claws! Blighting hexes!
  • Will this tempt their blows?

Camping Stress[edit | edit source]

  • Who wants to change my stitches? No need to be gentle!
  • No, not the stew! The salt is for my wounds!
  • Of course it needs branding, lest it putrify.

Marking Self[edit | edit source]

  • Blood always draws the most dangerous of fiends.
  • Come fiends! Pleasure me with pain!
  • My flesh aches for gashes and wounds!

Damaging Self[edit | edit source]

  • If only I had always known how to find such pleasure!
  • What a fine way to strengthen the will!

Refuses to Retreat[edit | edit source]

  • And flee pleasure? What madness is this?
  • I will teach you all how to savour this sweet misery!

Getting Hit by Enemy[edit | edit source]

  • Yes...yes...
  • The sensation is indescribable...

Enemy Missed Self[edit | edit source]

  • Oh come now, am I that hard to hit?
  • Do you not recognize opportunity for mutual benefit?

Party Member Hit[edit | edit source]

  • I do wish such blows could be shared...
  • I would give anything to be in your place right now!

Blocks Move[edit | edit source]

  • To move would distract me from the pain...
  • I am fine to bleed here.

Refuses to Use Item[edit | edit source]

  • I requested salt for my gashes, thank you.
  • Will it enhance the pain?

Refuses to Get Healed[edit | edit source]

  • Do not interrupt my pleasure!
  • I pity you, oblivious to such easy delights!
  • No...leave...I am...uhhh...

Refuses to Get Buffed[edit | edit source]

  • I draw all the strength I need from this pain!
  • Spilled blood fuels my will!
  • It is as if my musket feeds on my blood...

Refuses to Perform Camping Skill[edit | edit source]

  • Trust me love, you get used to it.
  • Only if you'll help me cut out these delicious stitches.
  • You've still plenty left to bleed with, you'll see.

Refuses to be Target of Camping Skill[edit | edit source]

  • I...ah...uhm...ohhhh...
  • Is there any more salt in the provisions?

Refuses to Eat when Camping[edit | edit source]

  • I only take mine with wraith's pepper.
  • A hunter is more keen on the fast.

Becoming Abusive[edit | edit source]

  • None of you could attend to my attendants!
  • You jeopardize this hunt and I will have my prize!
  • None of you are barely fit to feed the fire!
  • A hunting party composed of rats and mules, how truly formidable!
  • I wouldn't let you brush the dung from my boots!

Stressing Party[edit | edit source]

  • There may be one among you who could shoulder my dead prey.
  • I am suffocated by your doltish ways!
  • A pack of blind apes would bring more to this fight!

Random Action[edit | edit source]

  • Do your best to follow, curs!
  • Do as I do or die on the trail!
  • The rabble's opinions are the bleatings of simple sheep.

Camping Stress[edit | edit source]

  • Is that chewing tobacco? Charming.
  • If you want to be of help then leave off!
  • They will sing of my heroic perseverance despite you louts.

Attacking Party Member[edit | edit source]

  • Your incompetence threatens this expedition!
  • I will not stand for such insubordination!

Party Member Attack Hits[edit | edit source]

  • You threaten the hunt with your selfish attacks!
  • You have enraged it! Let me finish it next time!

Party Member Attack Misses[edit | edit source]

  • Your wild swings are a threat to your own party!
  • Did something shiny catch your eye? Pfah!

Party Member Hit[edit | edit source]

  • And that is what separates you attendants from us hunters.
  • More proof you will never lead your own expedition.

Blocks Move[edit | edit source]

  • I will not suffer a fool's pretense.
  • Why should I even consider your counsel on this matter?

Refuses to Perform Camping Skill[edit | edit source]

  • Let's save it for something actually worthwhile.
  • Has bumblebrains got themselves an owie?
  • Not everyone needs or deserves help, here.

Refuses to be Target of Camping Skill[edit | edit source]

  • Look here! A mummer who also knows physic!
  • I would rather let an alley urchin treat me.

Becoming Selfish[edit | edit source]

  • This is my hunt and woe if you forget that!
  • Be grateful! They may name you when they sing my songs!
  • This expedition deserves a worthy leader! Me!
  • Step aside, I have trained under those who survived the Lost Jungle!
  • My attendants have outfitted me with the most lethal accoutrements!

Stressing Party[edit | edit source]

  • If you could be so kind as to allow me to finish it...
  • As your leader I command you to follow my orders!
  • Occupy them, I ready the kill-shot!

Switching Position to the Front[edit | edit source]

  • No lion permits the jackals first pick of the kill!
  • Behind me, covetous vultures!
  • You're welcome!

Switching Position to the Back[edit | edit source]

  • Consider it a lesson in self-sufficiency!
  • I did not sign on to clean up the slop of your blunders!
  • Better I live and save us all than be wasted up front!

Passing Turn[edit | edit source]

  • Leave be, I aim to survive this, with or without you.
  • I will not blunder foolish into their blows.
  • Do not presume to press your faulty counsel.

Random Action[edit | edit source]

  • To catch the beast one must think like one!
  • Hinder me and the expedition falls!
  • I had something more clever in mind!

Camping Stress[edit | edit source]

  • I did not think you would mind if I had some extra.
  • Oh, dear me, I only brought enough for myself.
  • Your games and cheer keep me from sleep!

Getting Hit by Enemy[edit | edit source]

  • Pray I survive! Our fate hangs on it!
  • Why was I not warned?!

Party Member Attack Hits[edit | edit source]

  • I would have slain it!
  • A clumsy blow to ruin the trophy!

Party Member Attack Misses[edit | edit source]

  • Your miss throws my tactics into chaos!
  • I only have enough powder to save myself!

Refuses to Perform Camping Skill[edit | edit source]

  • I need to make sure there's enough for me.
  • Well...my musket won't clean itself, dearie.
  • This is a hunting expedition, not a nursery.

Becoming Hopeless[edit | edit source]

  • A life wasted stalking dumb beasts!
  • I was never ready. I will die here, surely!
  • Alas, my pride has snared me and hung me to dry!
  • This is an impossible quarry!
  • I am not the huntress I thought myself to be!

Stressing Party[edit | edit source]

  • I am worthless without my attendants!
  • They smirked when I announced my expedition...
  • My death will besmirch my family's name and deeds.

Switching Position to the Front[edit | edit source]

  • The weak should be culled from the herd.
  • I offer myself, a hollow braggart, to a fitting end.
  • I have been tried by the hunt and found wanting.

Switching Position to the Back[edit | edit source]

  • A coward's will drives these traitorous limbs.
  • I beg you for protection with nothing to barter.
  • Perhaps the morrow's dawn will rekindle my spirit.

Passing Turn[edit | edit source]

  • My heart is an ash-filled pit, all embers long dead.
  • A corpse pit awaits us as this trail unwinds itself.
  • I am caught in the web and the spider comes lazily.

Random Action[edit | edit source]

  • What foul trail have we followed?
  • My choices all tainted by the hand of doom.
  • Fate itself hunts me, where can I hide?

Camping Stress[edit | edit source]

  • I am not in the mood to natter.
  • Do me the kindness of slitting my throat as I sleep.
  • Do you know of a poison that puts one into a morbid sleep?

Marking Self[edit | edit source]

  • The grave is dug and its black maw beckons.
  • I am no hunter, then I can only be prey.

Damaging Self[edit | edit source]

  • Curses! Missed the jugular!
  • My will has betrayed me and now my hands follow!

Refuses to Retreat[edit | edit source]

  • You shall all die with me, drowning in despair!
  • The hunt is over, for all of us...

Refuses to Use Item[edit | edit source]

  • Death is certain, so this is without merit.
  • Save it for someone with hope.

Refuses to Get Healed[edit | edit source]

  • What am I to do without hope?
  • Death's cold hand clutches at my heart.
  • I am stepping into the grave.

Refuses to Get Buffed[edit | edit source]

  • Nothing will slow my pursuit of Death!
  • But I am already dead!
  • Doomed, I am doomed, do not pretend otherwise!

Refuses to Perform Camping Skill[edit | edit source]

  • What a waste, we are all walking corpses now!
  • I can tell you want to die, just as I do.
  • Why struggle against what is seen in our malefic stars?

Refuses to be Target of Camping Skill[edit | edit source]

  • If it won't hasten my end then be gone.
  • So I can survive another day? I fear nothing worse.

Refuses to Eat when Camping[edit | edit source]

  • What strength have I to regain?
  • Perhaps you who still wish to breathe should eat first.

Becoming Irrational[edit | edit source]

  • What is all of this, are we under the sea?!
  • The hawks scream flags bearing my name!
  • Squadrons of vikings! A field of battle!
  • A cosmic flea! A cosmic joke!
  • I can never die!

Stressing Party[edit | edit source]

  • This weird ruse can shoot flowers from a pipe!
  • My heart quivers...could this be love?
  • It's in the trees!

Switching Position to the Front[edit | edit source]

  • And now for my next act...
  • It cackles wildly with the voices from my mind!
  • Some fruit appears lush yet rot marbles through it!

Switching Position to the Back[edit | edit source]

  • Two hups and a tweet for you, m'lord!
  • Quick hide! We want to surprise him for his naming day!
  • Algebra? The ancient Arabic numerological treatise?!

Passing Turn[edit | edit source]

  • They said the jungle came alive and took him...
  • Fill the kitty's saucer with more cream! Now!
  • Do not spill, it will kill the grass.

Random Action[edit | edit source]

  • Cartwheel east and unleash the beasts! Cartwheel west...
  • My dreams are filled with moonlit flights!
  • Ah to bathe in a cauldron with the other rabbits...

Camping Stress[edit | edit source]

  • Why are we sleeping? The sun is high!
  • We must clean! My family arrives soon!
  • It was a square glass, and it gleamed and spoke to me.

Marking Self[edit | edit source]

  • Perchance now he will notice me!
  • Hit me and I will burst open spilling coins for all!

Attacking Party Member[edit | edit source]

  • I will not land in your pot, foul witch!
  • It would be unfair if you kept all the lizards!

Damaging Self[edit | edit source]

  • Strange, the trumpets still sound...
  • Just as it transpired in her crystal ball!

Refuses to Retreat[edit | edit source]

  • We cannot leave until the main course is served!
  • Fleeing this fleeting feeling fouls my very temper!

Getting Hit by Enemy[edit | edit source]

  • This tribe communicates in a most peculiar manner!
  • What a waste of good suffering!

Enemy Missed Self[edit | edit source]

  • That scent, so familiar...
  • Why does the moon weep blood?

Party Member Attack Hits[edit | edit source]

  • Nicely done, now there are two!
  • Secretly, I despise mummers as well!

Party Member Attack Misses[edit | edit source]

  • Of course, it was the ants!
  • Of course one cannot simply slay a ghost!

Party Member Hit[edit | edit source]

  • It whispers, the earth itself...
  • I admit, I have no idea which tree to tap for ale.

Enemy Missed Party Member[edit | edit source]

  • You remind me of my wetnurse in this light.
  • A musket is merely a tulip that is simply a trout.

Blocks Move[edit | edit source]

  • Remove the irons from my legs first.
  • To where? Time and space are phantasm.

Refuses to Use Item[edit | edit source]

  • What would I do with such a lizard?
  • A lovely child, is it yours?

Refuses to Get Healed[edit | edit source]

  • I saw a road winding backwards in a spiral, through the sea.
  • The stars once spoke my name and then left.
  • All things are made of ash and longing.

Refuses to Get Buffed[edit | edit source]

  • Come back when you have a key for all these chains.
  • I have plenty of bunnies, thank you.
  • Lords and ladies, I cannot accept this.

Refuses to Perform Camping Skill[edit | edit source]

  • Hahahahahaha! HAHAHAHahaha!
  • Why did the cockrel cross the lane?
  • To reach the other side! Hahahahaha!

Refuses to be Target of Camping Skill[edit | edit source]

  • Have you applied to gnome school before?
  • I see you are entirely made of pebbles, how tragic!

Refuses to Eat when Camping[edit | edit source]

  • As Queen of the Voles, I declare this meal is beneath me!
  • Sharks swim in that bowl.

Becoming Stalwart[edit | edit source]

  • If we persist the quarry is ours!
  • We will not turn back now!
  • So long as my musket still roars..!
  • Shrug off your wounds and join me in the chase!
  • This prize was meant to be claimed!

Stress Healing Self[edit | edit source]

  • Blessings be! Hope returns!
  • Victory is near! My soul burns!

Becoming Courageous[edit | edit source]

  • We are the first to ever stalk this prey!
  • Take heart! The quarry knows it is caught!

Stress Healing Party[edit | edit source]

  • We have their scent, they will fall!
  • Take these berries, an old bush trick.

Becoming Focused[edit | edit source]

  • Nothing can stop us from our prize now!
  • The thrill of the hunt clears my mind!

Buffing Party Member[edit | edit source]

  • See now? You have the heart of a hunter.
  • Watch your target grow larger and larger, in your mind's eye!

Becoming Powerful[edit | edit source]

  • The hunter rules from the apex!
  • Man is the ultimate predator!

Buffing Party[edit | edit source]

  • I will show you how we can finish this!
  • Which of us will earn its skull?!

Becoming Vigorous[edit | edit source]

  • I will not be stopped until the hunt is won!
  • I am like a wolf, following tirelessly, waiting for weakness!

Self Healing[edit | edit source]

  • Mountain-folk breathe like this to lift the spirits!
  • I am honoured to have you as pack mates!

All for one, and one for all!
~ Musketeer while being targeted for the insta-death skill of the Heart of Darkness.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • Her first predetermined name, Quiet, is a reference to a character of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom PainTM. As of now, her predetermined name is Margaret.
  • No backer heroes exist within her, because she was an invisible class on Kickstarter classified as "Lord Tier", the other two are the DLC heroes: the Flagellant and the Shieldbreaker.
  • Her bark while being targeted by the final boss is a reference to Alexandre Dumas novel "The Three Musketeers".
  • The Musketeer's crystaline trinket, Icosahedric Musket Balls, and the Arbalest's, Keening Bolts, have different effects, making these the only mechanical difference between the two.
