The Necrotic Fungus is not commonly encountered in the Weald - rather, it is created by the Hateful Virago, sprouting from the corpses of the fallen. Though it cannot fight like the rest of the creatures in the Weald, the very presence of this fungus interferes with all forms of healing, and is the biggest reason why the Virago is so dangerous.
Behaviour[ | ]
The Necrotic Fungus is spawned from an enemy's corpse by a Hateful Virago's From Death Comes Life ability. She will use this automatically at the end of any round if there is an available corpse, consuming that corpse and replacing it one of these wicked weeds.
On its own, the Necrotic Fungus does absolutely nothing except take up space. It has no attacks, it does not move, and its only defense is a decent HP stat. However, despite this, it's a monumental threat to the party - so long as a Necrotic Fungus is on the field, its corrupting spores completely block healing effects, shown by all heroes having a special debuff icon on them. This also includes skills that do other things in addition to healing - this includes the Vestal's Judgment, Abomination's Transform, and the Flagellant's Exsanguinate.
Because the Virago herself is quite a potent combatant, and often brings along friends she can buff to impressive levels, the presence of a Necrotic Fungus can result in a deadly cycle where heroes are unable to get off Death's Door, making it much more likely that you'll lose a party member. To minimize the time spent being affected by the Necrotic Fungus, it is often important that the Hateful Virago never gets an opportunity to summon them. Strategies to avoid the creation of the Fungi include killing enemies with bleed or blight which forces them to never leave a corpse, or quickly eliminating corpses with skills specifically designed to erase them.
If you manage to defeat everything else and have one or two Necrotic Fungi remaining on the battlefield, you can use this opportunity to spam pure Stress-healing skills to your heart's desire, as the Necrotic Fungus cannot directly harm your heroes.
