The Prophet is a boss which appears in the Ruins, and, like other bosses, has three variations (Sonorous, Fulminating and Gibbering).

Ancestor's Memoirs: The Prophet[ | ]

Excavations beneath the manor were well underway, when a particularly ragged indigent arrived in the hamlet. This filthy, toothless miscreant boasted an uncanny knowledge of my ambitions and prognosticated publicly that, left unchecked, I would soon unleash doom upon the world.

This raving creature had to be silenced. But doing so proved maddeningly impossible. How had he survived the stockades, the icy waters, and the knives I delivered so enthusiastically into his back? How had he returned, time and time again, to rouse the townsfolk with his wild speculations and prophecies?

Finally, resigned to his uncommon corporeal resilience I lured him to the dig. There, I showed him the THING and detailed the full extent of my plans. Triumphantly I watched as he tore his eyes from their sockets and ran shrieking into the shadows, wailing maniacally that the end was upon us all.

~ The Ancestor

Behavior[ | ]

The Prophet spawns on rank 4, with wooden pews occupying ranks 1, 2 and 3. Breaking these pews will reward valuable Consecrated Pews at the end of the battle, summing up to 7500 gold if all three are broken. It's also worth noting that all remaining pews disappear after beating the Prophet, thus ending the combat.

The Prophet will always open the round with "Calamitous Prognostication" and end it with "Rubble of Ruin". In between them, he will cast one of either "Eye on You" or "Fulminate".

If one of your heroes is heavily stressed (>50 Stress), the chance of him using "Eye on You" will be doubled/tripled for Veteran and Champion level dungeons respectively.

Strategy[ | ]

The Prophet starts in slot 4 behind 3 planks of wood that act as walls to protect him. If you break the planks, he will start moving forward into empty slots. Each plank is tougher than the last, so you may want to avoid the third plank, which has the highest health. The planks are worth money if destroyed. Each plank is worth the same amount of money though, so don't expect a big bonus for the third plank.

There are two main ways of killing Prophet. The first is to smash through the Pews to bring Prophet into striking distance. The second plan is to just ignore the pews and hit Prophet directly with heroes who have a long range. Both strategies will eventually kill Prophet, but the first plan takes a lot longer and thus increases the risk of someone dying. The payoff for this risk is a decent amount of Gold.

Main Risk of Prophet[ | ]

Two of the Prophets moves don't deal good dmg and don't pose a lethal threat by themselves. Both his Blight and Stun might be annoying but can usually be outhealed/removed with a decent team. The main problem is Rubble of Ruin, which is used every turn and deals massive dmg to your heroes. Due to the huge amount of dmg output Rubble provides, the Blight and Stun become very threatening since a DoT on a hero on Deaths Door is a big problem and a Stun on your healer at the wrong time can quickly kill someone.

That's why there are two specific strats just to deal with Rubble, since if Prophet can't deal the massive dmg with Rubble, the threat of the fight is pretty much completely removed. These strategies are not mandatory to beat Prophet, but help a lot with lowering the risk of the fight.

Debuffs[ | ]

The first strategy is to debuff Prophet's damage using moves like Intimidate from Leper or Weakening Curse from Occultist. Prophet can usually be debuffed very quickly to deal almost no damage with "Rubble of Ruin" and thus removing the threat of the fight. An example party would be Arbalest;Houndmaster;Occultist;Leper. This team provides good healing between Arbalest and Occultist and can deal with Prophet quite easily. Occultist and Leper will use their respective -dmg moves to hit Prophet and reduce the damage he deals, while Houndmaster and Arbalest work on dealing damage to Prophet.

Guard[ | ]

The second Strategy relies on the Guard of Houndmaster or Man-at-Arms to funnel and reduce the damage of "Rubble of Ruin" to a single person so it's easier to keep up with the dmg Prophet deals. An example team would be Plague Doctor;Vestal;Man-at-Arms;Hellion. Man-at-Arms guards the threatened hero while Vestal and Plaguedoctor focus on keeping the party alive by healing and/or removing Blight. Hellion starts using Iron Swan to kill Prophet.

Team Selection[ | ]

Preferred Heroes[ | ]

  • Antiquarian - Can force guard to herself, debuff Prophets ACC using Flashpowder and increase Blight resist using Fortifying Vapours.
  • Arbalest - Can deal good damage to rank 4 if Prophet is marked. Suppressing Fire can be used to further decrease the risk of getting hit by rubble.
  • Bounty Hunter - Caltrops and his Mark can greatly increase the damage Prophet takes.
  • Crusader - Holy Lance can deal massive damage to Prophet. Provides a quick way to bring someone off Deaths Door with Inspiring Cry.
  • Hellion - Iron Swan can deal massive damage to Prophet. Can heal her own Blight with Adrenaline Rush.
  • Houndmaster - Can Guard threatened heroes. His dodge bonus and Mark synergize with Arbalest to increase the value of Suppressing Fire and Sniper Shot.
  • Leper - Can lower the damage of Prophet with Intimidate to make it easier to outheal rubble damage.
  • Man-at-Arms - Guards threatened heroes. Has great PROT bonuses to reduce rubble damage.
  • Occultist - Can lower the damage of Prophet using Weakening Curse and can heal the damage dealt by rubble.
  • Plague Doctor - Can deal damage to Prophet and heal the Blight Prophet applies.
  • Shieldbreaker - Can negate rubble damage by using Serpent Sway and deals great dmg to Rank 4.

Reasonable Choices[ | ]

  • Vestal - Can heal the entire party, but can't do much else.
  • Flagellant - Provides immunity to Death by DoT by using Reclaim and can deal good damage to Prophet using Rain of Sorrows. His Bleeds aren't very good for the dungeon however.
  • Grave Robber - Can deal damage to Rank 4, but is usually outclassed by other heroes in terms of Rank 4 damage.
  • Highwayman - Can deal damage to Rank 4, but his Riposte isn't very useful and his damage with Pistol Shot is outclassed by other heroes.

Discouraged Heroes[ | ]

  • Abomination - Can't deal any damage to Prophet until at least one of the pews is destroyed.
  • Jester - Can't deal any damage to Prophet until at least one of the pews is destroyed. A build that focuses on Finale can help end the fight quickly, but Jester won't be doing a lot aside from that.

Trophy[ | ]

After completing the Prophet's champion quest, he will drop one of his eyes as a Trophy.

Trivia[ | ]

  • If you have subtitles on, during the intro before the level, the narrator will describe the prophet as a "miscreant", despite the text on screen reading "degenerate". In fact the subtitles are different in other parts of this intro too.
